Do You Have The Right Auto Insurance?

Michigan law requires no-fault car insurance.

Every registered vehicle must be insured for these coverages. If you are convicted of driving without basic no-fault insurance, you may be fined up to $500, put in jail for one year, or both. If you are unable to produce proof of insurance when requested by a law enforcement officer, you may be found guilty of a civil infraction and the court may suspend your license for 30 days, or until you are able to provide such proof.

Personal Injury Protection (No-fault) Insurance.

If you are hurt, the Medical Benefits part pays for your medical and rehabilitation expenses. While you are recovering, Work Loss Benefits pay for the loss of money you would have earned. It will also pay to hire someone to do things you usually do for your family, such as childcare, housework, cooking, etc. If you die from your injuries, Survivors’ Loss pays benefits to your family. There are limits on how much you can receive in Work Loss or Survivors’ Loss Benefits.

Note: You can lower the cost of your Personal Injury Protection Insurance by choosing:
-Coordinated Medical and Work Loss Benefits if you have other medical or wage-loss insurance which will pay for car-related injuries.
-A $100 – $300 deductible.

Property Protection Insurance.

Pays for damage to property and parked cars. Every no-fault policy in Michigan has $1 million in property protection insurance.

Bodily Injury Liability.

This covers you if you have an accident in another state or if you seriously injure someone in Michigan. The law says you must have enough insurance to pay $20,000 per person, up to $40,000 per accident. You can buy more coverage at a higher cost.

Property Damage Liability.

This covers you if you have an accident in another state. You must have a least a $10,000 limit, but you can buy more at a higher cost.

Comprehensive.

Pays for loss from things such as fire, theft, and vandalism. With a $100 deductible, you pay $100 and the insurance company pays the rest. See
available deductibles.

Collision.

The 3 different kinds of collision are listed below. Collision insurance pays for damages to your car in case of an accident. If you do not buy collision
coverage, you will have to pay for all or most of the damage yourself, even if you are not at fault.

Limited Collision.

Only pays if the driver of your car is not more than 50% at fault in the accident. You can buy this kind of coverage without a deductible. Limited is the lowest cost choice of collision coverage.

Standard Collision.

Pays for damages to your car, regardless of who caused the accident. A regular collision has a $100 deductible, but you can buy higher deductibles at a lower cost.

Broad Collision.

Pays for damages to your car, regardless of who caused the accident. Always sold with a deductible, but you only pay the deductible if the driver of your car was more than 50% at fault in the accident. Buying deductibles higher than $100 will lower the cost of the coverage. Broad gives you the best protection but also costs the most.

Uninsured Motorist Coverage.

Pays for your bodily injury losses, which are not covered by Personal Injury Protection Insurance, if you are hurt by an uninsured motorist. This coverage pays up to $20,000 per person and up to $40,000 per accident. You can buy more coverage at a higher cost.

Limited Property Damage Liability.

If you are 50% or more the cause of an accident, you can be sued for up to $500 in damages to the other car, if those damages are not covered by the other driver’s insurance. For an extra cost, you can buy insurance to protect yourself against this type of lawsuit.

Additional Equipment.

You can purchase direct and accidental loss to custom equipment or features not installed by the manufacturer. This coverage is only available with the purchase of comprehensive and collision coverage.

Towing and Labor Cost.

For an additional cost, you can purchase coverage that will pay up to $50 each time your car requires towing and/or labor upon disablement.

Rental Reimbursement.

For an additional cost, we will offer a per-day rate for a substitute car. This is applicable if your car is unusable for more than 48hrs due to a covered loss.
